I Exist seven strong

I Exist have had a total of seven members for a while now, so far they've only played one show with all seven, usually it's six members on stage with either JJ or Kelly on third guitar. This is the first promo of them with seven members.



This is the new header image of their myspace, seven dudes with a sword getting silly, Patrick Galvin did the graphic design.

Not sure if I'll post the original image, I might actually do some prints of it if anyone is interested.

Bad Romance

This is the back cover of a split 7" between I Exist and Phantoms, I took the photo. If I had known at the time that it would be used for anything more than a snapshot I would have put more effort into it. Just south of Brisbane is a lovely place where dreams come true - Wet 'n' Wild. While touring together in March 2010, Canberra sludge merchants I Exist and Sydney pseudo thugs Phantoms visited this magical place and decided to immortalise it in song. Recorded in one afternoon with Lachlan Mitchell between visits to Sizzler and a Soulfly concert, the result is Bad Romance, 2 songs from each act and all named after Wet 'n' Wild rides.

The 7" will be released January 14th 2011, with a pre order available from December 6th.

I took some photos of Sean in his backyard.

4Dead Hoodlum Shouts

These photos are from a show back in June with 4Dead and Hoodlum Shouts. This was 4Dead's first show in over a year, and their first show with the new lineup.

Life and Limb - recording day 2

The second day of recording for Life and Limb, mostly just vocal recording. Each member of the band sings, as well as two female backing vocalists.

I Exist promo and practise

I shot new photo of Alex, since his return from South America, to fit in with the previous I Exist head shots.

I also hung around during their practise before going to Perth, and took a few photos.

Life and Limb - recording day 1

Life and Limb is a new project started by James Stuart, a veritable super-group of previous Canberra bands, including but not limited to Hard Luck, Repoman, A Stab in the Dark, Brisk, Moments  and I Exist. I photographed their recording process at Infidel studios in Queanbeyan. Recording to analog tape, the songs are to be released early next year on 7" but you can hear 2 songs here: http://www.myspace.com/lifeandlimbmusic. While firmly based within the Canberra hardcore scene this material sounds very different to all there previous projects, bringing to mind influences of Fugazi, jazz drumming and French rap.

The band recorded live as a four piece together in one room, later overdubbing vocals from all the members, these are the photos from the first day of recording.

The Ghost Inside & 50 Lions

The Ghost Inside and 50 Lions supporting Parkway Drive at the Royal Theatre in Canberra.
Half of the photos of TGI I used a 430ex and a 580ex each side of stage, and the other half I shot without strobes and just the stage lighting. All the 50 Lions photos were shot with only stage lighting, simply because I didn't  have time to set up my lights. I much prefer shooting with strobes as it gives me more control over the light and allows me to shoot at a lower ISO, but mainly I just like the look it gives.

Parkway Drive - Royal Theatre

This is about the fifteenth time I've seen Parkway Drive, and this is the biggest show they've ever played in Canberra. They seem to have grown accustomed to playing larger stages, but at the same time looking like they're having more fun than anybody else in the room. I used a 430ex on stage right and a 580ex stage left slightly out in front. The Devil Wears Prada, The Ghost Inside and 50 Lions supported, photos of them in a few days.

Pod People - Promos

I did these a few months back, at a tree that was described to me as "doom looking".
Pod People are a Canberra doom/stoner metal band, that have been around for ages.

Extortion I Exist SXWZD Tour - Part 3

Out of order blog post, first show in Canberra. Friday the 13th, only 4dead bothered to dress up. This was a great start to the tour, show sold out.
